Dentist in Cypress Lake

With our focus being to help our patients function as healthy, active adults, our Cypress Lake family dentist knows that tooth loss can be considerably improved with dentures, enhancing your appearance and well-being. A denture is a removable prosthesis replacing some, or all, of the missing teeth in your dental arch. Dedicated to providing an exceptional, personalized patient experience each visit, at McGregor Dental at McGregor Point, we work with you to ensure that you make an informed decision as to whether dentures are best for you. Once we determine what type of appliance is appropriate for you, exact measurements will be taken, as well as a series of impressions of your jaw. From these impressions, wax forms, models, and plastic patterns in the exact shape and position of the denture, will be created. We have you try this model on several times as we evaluate the denture for color, shape, and fit, prior to the final denture being cast.

Before removing your dentures, you should brush them to remove plaque and food particles because even though dentures are not real teeth, you need to take care of them as if they are. Your dentures should be brushed daily to avoid permanent staining, paying special attention to cleaning the teeth that fit under the metal clasps. In-depth cleansing with approved denture cleansers is very important to avoid plaque build-up that can cause tooth decay. After removing your dentures, they should be placed directly into room temperature water or a denture cleaning solution. Never use hot water because it could warp the dentures, and always be sure to handle them with extra care and make sure you don’t drop them. Dentures are quite delicate and can be damaged when trying to adjust them yourself. Always seek the assistance of our Cypress Lake family dentist if your dentures feel loose or uncomfortable. Most denture maintenance and repairs can be done on the same day, and more involved adjustments will have to be sent out to a lab.

If your dentures become loose, or begin to look worn, they will need to be replaced, but most can be remade using their existing base. If dentures continue to fit well, additional hold can be provided with dental adhesives. We do stress, however, that this is not the answer for poorly fitting dentures which can cause mouth irritation or sores. Once your dentures feel loose, or cause you any discomfort, it’s best to come see our Cypress Lake family dentist in case more involved repairs are necessary.
